The inky sky swallowed up my kids on this, the first day back to school after break. Not a sliver of light splayed over the horizon. So I went back to bed and prayed for them, all three, brave and growing boys. For protection. Help. Hope. I curled myself around my dog, grateful to breathe in the scent of another living being as the light in my bedroom shifted from navy blue to deep gray, colors of book spines emerging in the sputtering haze of day.

Be there for them, God.

Be there for me, Lord.

So we can be there for You.

“God, treat us kindly. You’re our only hope. First thing in the morning, be there for us! When things go bad, help us out!
Isaiah 33:2 (TMV)

  1. I can’t begin to tell you how much this short post spoke to my heart. Layers of hitting the fears, sadness, and anxiety I’m feeling today. So happy you are a mom. So happy you are a writer.

I’m feeling joy right now thanks to this.

Can you teach me how to write short posts? 🙂

    Bless you, Amy!

    1. I’m so grateful you visited and read it today! And as for the short part, well, Kate DiCamillo sends out the most extravagant facebook updates every so often. They’re seriously this many words or fewer. So I made it my goal to try to accomplish the same. Sometimes all the heart needs is a soundbite. Sometimes that’s all folks have time for, right? Blessings!!!
